Cathy Voeks is Compass’ lead for independent schools, bringing more than two decades of extensive frontline experience in fundraising, strategic planning, and institutional advancement to her consulting role. Known for her ability to translate vision into results, Cathy has successfully guided schools through multimillion-dollar fundraising initiatives, including annual fund drives, comprehensive campaigns, and capital campaigns, while aligning these efforts with overarching strategic plan objectives.

Most recently, Cathy served as director of development for Norwood School where she excelled in strategic communications, trustee relations, volunteer management, and donor cultivation. Under her leadership, the school consistently exceeded its fundraising goals, cultivated a culture of philanthropy, and strengthened relationships across the community. Previously, she held the role of director of special projects at The Potomac School, overseeing the implementation of their Centennial Celebration and their concurrent transformative $50 million campaign.

In addition to her professional achievements, Cathy’s commitment to education extends to volunteer leadership roles. Her experience includes serving on the development committee for the Association of Independent Schools of Greater Washington, as well as participation on two boards for Clemson University—one focused on student affairs and the other serving the Maryland/DC region.

Her career began as a third-grade teacher, and throughout Cathy’s professional life, she has remained deeply committed to education. As a frequent speaker at industry events, Cathy shares her expertise in conducting readiness assessments for campaigns, campaign management, and storytelling. She is also a sought-after peer-coach, particularly for independent schools with new heads of school, who value her extensive experience as they take on expanded responsibilities in fundraising.

Cathy earned a Master of Education degree from Johns Hopkins University and a Bachelor of Arts degree from American University.
