Marc Cousins approaches his five-year anniversary with The Compass Group having advanced the campaigns and capacity-building efforts of several organizations through the provision of strategic fundraising counsel. Recent successes in the conservation sector include guiding two state chapters of The Nature Conservancy (TNC NH and TNC VT) as they surpassed their initial goals and completed campaigns during the pandemic. Marc worked closely with Executive Directors and philanthropy and communications staffs on campaign plans, facilitated the onboarding of philanthropy staff, managed the development of board and volunteer leader training, and helped to facilitate strategic planning process. For Clean Energy New Hampshire, as well as two private academies with outdoor learning components, Marc has managed all efforts of campaign planning and management including collection of data, analysis, and recommendations; wealth screening and analysis; and development of major gifts programs.
Before transitioning to a consulting role, Marc worked in the independent school sector for more than two decades. Most recently, he completed a 16-year career at St. James Academy as an educator, administrator, and athletic director. During his tenure, he participated in two capital campaigns, successfully collaborating with colleagues and board members to bring a new science and technology wing to the campus, renovate theatre space, and enhance professional development for athletic staff.
Marc’s volunteer leadership with his alma mater continues to broaden his engagement and development experience. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Alumnae/i Association of Goucher College that gives alumnae/i a strong voice in college affairs while also promoting the interests of the Goucher community through special events and programs. As a three-sport collegiate athlete, Marc has also served as a member of the Blue and Gold Society, an Athletic Advisory Board of Goucher College, developing alumni engagement programs for alumni athletes. Marc takes pride in working directly with students, often serving as a panelist or guest speaker to share industry insights in preparation for graduation.
Marc earned both a Master’s in Education Athletic Program Leadership and Administration degree and a Bachelor of Arts in Education degree from Goucher College.
