In her 25 years of fundraising, Carol Thornton has helped nonprofit organizations across the sectors of education, health care and human services raise more than $100 million for capital, annual, and endowment projects. Her skills include campaign management, endowment and planned giving program development, alumni relations, annual giving, prospect identification, major gift solicitation, volunteer development and communications.
Before joining The Compass Group, Carol held senior fundraising roles including dean of development for St. Agnes Academy-St. Dominic School, director of development for Christian Brothers University, director of development for the University of Tennessee, College of Medicine, and endowment officer at ALSAC-St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Prior to launching her career in fundraising, she served as a member of the faculty in the Department of Sociology at the University of Memphis and completed marketing research consulting for Fed Ex.
Carol has shared her fundraising expertise extensively through the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), both presenting at conferences and serving on the faculty of the CASE Workshop for Newcomers in Development and Introduction to Personal Solicitation.
Carol earned both a Master’s degree and a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Memphis.
